Confession is a true statement about self. It’s more than profession. It involves accepting that Jesus is Lord – that he has the right of rule and authority over our life. This acceptance of Jesus as Lord, authority, starts with a belief in Jesus’ saving work.
Jesus told us that out of the heart the mouth speaks. This confession comes from the heart.
Romans 10:9 says that we must believe in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. This is the heart of belief that leads to that confession.
To belief that God raised Jesus from the dead implicitly requires that we believe Jesus died in the first case. So we must accept that Jesus atoned for our sins in his death and rose again from the dead.
So how does this lead to our confession of Jesus as Lord? Well, if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we believe that he conquered both sin and death. And more so, he conquered the one who has power over the death, that is the devil.
So in believing that Jesus is Victorious Conquerer over sin and death, we are able to accept Jesus as Lord of our heart and life.
